INDIANAPOLIS --- The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team has been selected to participate in its fifth-straight NCAA Division II men's soccer championship, announced NCAA officials Monday evening.
Lees-McRae (14-5-1) advanced to the championship match of the Conference Carolinas Tournament this past weekend, dropping a narrow 1-0 decision to regular season and tournament champion Coker College (18-2). The Bobcats are the sixth seed in the Southeast Region, drawing an opening round matchup with Anderson University (17-3), who defeated LMC by a 4-0 score line earlier this season.
Coker is the top overall seed in the region tournament, earning a first round bye and a matchup with the winner of the opening tilt between fourth-seeded Mars Hill College (11-5-1) and fifth-seeded University of Montevallo (12-4-4). The winner of the Lees-McRae/Anderson matchup will take on second-seeded Flagler College (15-3-2) in the second round.
The Bobcats sport a balanced offense attack this season, led by sophomore James Galvani (High Wycombe, England), and freshmen James Smith (Eastbourne, England) and Scott Alford (Hillsborough, N.C.). Galvani enters the tournament with a team-leading 10 goals and 24 points this season, while Smith and Alford have posted 16 and 14 tallies, respectively.
Lees-McRae will take on Anderson in its opening round match on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. in Anderson, S.C. The Bobcats will look to avenge a 4-0 loss to the Trojans earlier this season.
