Oct 01, 2013
HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College freshman Marvyn Rieger (Frankfurt, Germany) has been named the Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the first time in his career, announced league officials Tuesday.
Rieger has played a pivotal role in Lees-McRae's (4-3, 2-0 CC) success this season, stepping straight into a starting role in the center of the back line and helping the Bobcats post three consecutive clean sheets. The Bobcats have allowed just seven goals this season, while entering the month of October riding a four-match winning streak.
A native of Frankfurt, Germany, Rieger led the Bobcats to a perfect 2-0 worksheet last week, pacing the back line to a pair of clean sheets while netting the winner against North Greenville with his first collegiate goal. The Bobcats combined to allow just two shots on frame for the week, extending their shutout streak to 293:52.
Lees-McRae returns to the pitch on Thursday when the Bobcats travel to Misenheimer, N.C. to take on Pfeiffer University in conference play at 4 p.m.
