Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to North Georgia

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae men's soccer team laid on a fury of shots in the waning minutes, but fell 2-0 to North Georgia at Tate Field Wednesday afternoon in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Nighthawks (1-2) claimed their first victory of the young season despite being outshot (17-15). The Bobcats (2-1) failed to score a goal for the first time this season.

Freshman Tyler Pavlet (Goodyear, Ariz.) shutout streak ended at 251:15 minutes when Malte Krapp corralled a loose ball from a scramble and was able to beat Pavlet to his left side.

Junior Matthew Cureton (Waxhaw, N.C.) and freshman Thomas Deeley (Timaru, New Zealand) had opportunities to get LMC on the board but missed by inches in the 33rd and 65th minute, respectively.

Senior Scott Alford (Hillsborough, N.C.) rocketed off a shot in the 81st minute, but had it blocked by a Nighthawk defender.

UNG took advantage on the following possession and took a 2-0 lead after Matt Shaftoe found the right side of the net from 14 yards out.

Senior James Smith (Eastbourne, England) had a shot hit the crossbar with a minute remaining.

A quartet of Bobcats registered three shots apiece while Pavlet finished with three saves.

UNG's Victor Ohlin earned the clean slate with a three-save effort while Shaftoe and Eric Carrion registered three shots each.

LMC welcomes No. 12 Lander Saturday at 3 p.m. at Tate Field.
