DUE WEST, S.C. --- Lees-McRae senior and duel athlete Scott Alford scored twice while senior James Galvani had a goal and an assist in a 3-3 tie at Erskine in a Conference Carolinas bout Saturday evening in Due West, S.C.
The Bobcats (4-1-1, 0-0-1 CC) proved tough as nails after coming back on two occasions while Galvani (High Wycombe, England) continued his torrid start to the 2014 season by tallying his team-best fifth goal on the year. The Flying Fleet (3-2-1, 1-0-1) struck twice in the six minutes to grab a 2-0 lead in the 36th minute.
EC's Stian Tsesmetsis drew first blood with a 45-yard blast into the right corner at the 30:39 mark before Andrew Settlemire connected on a header from a Josh Heafield cross less than six minutes later.
Alford (Hillsborough, N.C.) scored his first of the evening on a header from Jordan Wright (Winchburg, West Lothian, Scotland) two minutes before the first half ended.
Galvani scored his second goal of the week on a header off a corner kick from freshman Nathan Watt (Newcastle, England) to provide the equalizer.
The Flying Fleet retook the lead after Joe O'Neill bested Tyler Pavlet (Goodyear, Ariz.) on a shot following a Luke Boyce corner.
Coach Lee Squires' team wouldn't back down while Galvani found Alford with 5:14 remaining in regulation to tie it at three.
Senior James Smith (Eastbourne, England) notched three shots in the second overtime.
Settlemire led both teams with seven shots.
Pavlet had seven saves while Galvani had team-high six shot.
LMC travels to Central, S.C to face CC newcomer Southern Wesleyan Wednesday at 7 p.m.
