BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Senior James Smith impressed with a goal and an assist, but two late goals doomed the Lees-McRae men's soccer team, who fell 3-2 to Pfeiffer in Conference Carolinas play Saturday evening at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Falcons (4-3, 2-1 CC) scored twice in the final eight minutes while Jaime Siaj led the offensive charge with eight shots. The Bobcats (5-2-1, 1-1-1) failed to score three goals for the first time in five matches despite cranking out 21 shots.
Smith (Eastbourne, England) wasted little time by scoring 9:15 into the contest when he beat PU's Nicolas Dulac on the lower left following a pass from Matthew Cureton (Waxhaw, N.C.).
Siaj corralled a pass from Nathan Regis and beat Tyler Pavlet (Goodyear, Ariz.) in a one-v-one situation at the 38:13 mark.
Sophomore Marvyn Rieger (Frankfurt, Germany) drilled home a header on a Smith corner kick to LMC a 2-1 advantage in the 68th minute.
PU would tie it thanks to a Marshall Hodge goal in the 83rd. Hodge notched the equalizer when he received a friendly bounce on a blocked shot.
The Falcons took the lead with 2:09 remaining in regulation when Mateo Garces-Yepes found the back of the net from five yards out.
LMC's James Galvani (High Wycombe, England) paced the home squad with seven shots while the Bobcats took 14 in the second half.
