Men's Soccer Suffers Heartbreaker to No. 12 Limestone, 2-1

BANNER ELK, N.C. --- Senior James Smith registered his sixth goal of the season, but the Lees-McRae men's soccer team fell in heartbreaking fashion to No. 12 Limestone, 2-1, in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday evening at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Saints (9-1, 5-0 CC) used late match heroics by notching both goals in the final 11 minutes. The Bobcats (7-3-1, 2-2-1) saw goalie Nicholas Stover (Titusville, Fla.) make five spectacular saves throughout the evening.

Smith (Eastbourne, England) showed off his athleticism when he sprinted down the right side of the pitch, juked a defender and blast a shot into the lower left from inside the box at the 35:32 mark.

Smith paced both teams with six shots on the evening.

LC tied the contest when Sam Orritt corralled a pass from Ismael Noumansana and connected on a rocket into the top left from 22 yards out with 10:01 remaining.

Senior James Galvani (High Wycombe, England) nearly put the Bobcats ahead when he had a shot go high with less than three minutes to go.

The Saints took the lead when Harry Cooksley was able to knuckle a shot from 21 yards out past a diving Stover on the right side in the 88th minute.

Orritt led LC with five shots while goalie Tom Godfrey had two saves.

The Bobcats will enjoy a week off before welcoming Tusculum Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at Tate Field.
