Men's Soccer Tripped Up in Double OT Loss to Tusculum, 1-0

BOONE, N.C. --- Sophomore Jordan Wright tallied four shots while the Lees-McRae men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker in double overtime, 1-0, to Tusculum Wednesday afternoon at the Appalachian Soccer Complex in Boone, N.C.

The Pioneers (6-5-1) had three players register at least three shots while Jorge Alvarez earned the clean slate with three saves. The Bobcats (7-4-1) were blanked and have lost consecutive matches for the first time this season.

LMC had a pair of opportunities early when freshman Nathan Watt (Newcastle, England) had a shot blocked and junior Matthew Cureton (Waxhaw, N.C.) followed with one on frame in the first five minutes.

Wright (West Lothian, Scotland) and senior James Galvani (High Wycombe, England) connected on headers in an eight second span, but both missed wide.

Neither team would muster many opportunities in the second half besides a Galvani shot high in the waning seconds of the period.

The Pioneers tallied the golden goal at the 102:21 mark when Tyler Linkous had a bobbled ball fall to his feet and was able to corral it and find the back of the net on the right side.

LMC's Nicholas Stover (Titusville, Fla.) recorded five saves.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday when they travel to Conference Carolinas foe Belmont Abbey at 3 p.m. in Belmont, N.C.
