GAFFNEY, S.C. --- Senior James Galvani headed in a loose ball in the 99th minute while the No. 4 Lees-McRae men's soccer knocked off top-seeded and No. 10 Limestone, 1-0, in an overtime Conference Carolinas semifinal thriller at Saints Field on a windy Thursday night in Gaffney, S.C.
The Bobcats (13-5-1) advance to the Conference Carolinas title match for the first time since 2011. The Saints (15-2-1) dropped their second match of the year despite outshooting LMC 12-5.
Galvani (High Wycombe, England) was tabbed the CC second-team all-conference squad earlier in the afternoon. The senior connected on a header following a Scott Alford (Hillsborough, N.C.) feed into the box with 54 seconds remaining in the first overtime.
Sophomore Nicholas Stover (Titusville, Fla.) picked up his eighth win of the season and prevented a Saint goal with an incredible save when he left his feet and dove to the right in the 98th minute.
Neither team could muster much offense in the opening 45 minutes while the second half provided some unexpected entertainment.
With 32:04 remaining in the second half, Saints Field lost power to its lights for 25 minutes after a local car crash knocked out a transformer in the area. The pace didn't pick up while five yellow cards were distributed, including three on LMC.
LC's Harry Cooksley paced both teams with four shots.
Galvani and Alford led LMC with two shots each.
Coach Lee Squires' squad will play for the championship Saturday at 2 p.m. in Gaffney, S.C. against the winner of No. 2 Pfeiffer/No. 3 Barton.
