No. 4 Bobcats Fall in Title Game in PK's to No. 2 Pfeiffer

GAFFNEY, S.C. --- The No. 4 seeded Lees-McRae men's soccer team fell in penalty kicks to No. 2 Pfeiffer, 4-2, after 120 minutes of scoreless soccer for the Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Championship at Saints Field Saturday afternoon in Gaffney, S.C.

The Falcons (16-4-1) appeared in their first title game since 2000 and converted on all four of their PK's. The Bobcats (13-5-2) saw sophomore Nicholas Stover (Titusville, Fla.) make nine saves through fulltime and double overtime.

LMC entered No. 8 in the Southeast Regional Rankings coming into the week and will await their fate as the top 6 make the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament. The selection show is Monday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

No. 2 Limestone and No. 4 Barton both suffered semifinal losses.

Senior James Smith (Eastbourne, England) bent a corner kick that hit the crossbar in the 24th minute.

Stover survived a barrage of shot while PU was able to get three off in a span of 35 seconds moments later.

Senior James Galvani (High Wycombe, England) put a shot on frame in the 51st minute, but PU goalie Nicolas Dulac made the save.

Neither team could capitalize on rare opportunities to score in the extra 20 minutes forcing PK's.

PU converted on every attempt while LMC's first two missed.

Junior James Abraham (Maidstone, England), senior Scott Alford (Hillsborough, N.C.) and junior Matthew Cureton (Waxhaw, N.C.) were named to the all-tournament team.
