BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team maintained its undefeated record Wednesday evening at Tate Field as it defeated Carson-Newman by a score of 2-1. The victory propels the Bobcats to a 2-0-1 mark through three matches, which is the program's best record through three matches since 2009.
The Bobcats opened the scoring in the 33rd minute as Johannes Oeksnevad netted his first collegiate goal. Oeksnevad's goal was set up by Tom Deeley as he notched his second assist in 2017. In addition to his assist, Deeley also accounted for LMC's other goal in the contest as his unassisted marker in the 77th minute proved to be the game-winner.
Senior goalkeeper Tyler Pavlet picked up his second victory in three starts as he improves to 2-0-1 in 2017. Pavlet stopped four of five shots he saw Wednesday for a save percentage of .800, which is his best mark so far this season.
Lees-McRae will look to keep this impressive streak of play going Saturday when it hosts Barton it its first league match of the 2017 season. Kickoff for that match is slated for 4 p.m. from Tate Field.
