GREENWOOD, Ind. – Lees-McRae College men's soccer players Tom Deeley and Pol Vassart were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team the organization announced Thursday. Deeley and Vassart are the first Bobcats to be recognized by the organization since 2014 when former Bobcat James Smith earned Academic All-American honors.
"I'm excited to see that Tom, and Pol have continued to be recognized by those outside of the Lees-McRae community," said LMC Head Coach Rich Wall. "They've worked hard in the classroom, and on the field, and it shows in their performances over the course of this season."
Thursday's honor for Deeley is one of several the senior from Oxford, England earned in his final season as a Bobcat. Deeley was a two-time Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, the league's Offensive Player of the Year and was named to the conference's first team as well. He led all Bobcats with 13 goals and totaled 34 points. Deeley will graduate ranking fifth in Bobcat men's soccer history with 100 points and 37 goals, while being second with 26 assists.
Vassart has also had a stellar year in terms of awards for LMC. Vassart finished second on the team with 12 goals scored to go along with four assists for a total of 28 points. Additionally, three of Vassart's 12 goals proved to be game-winners. For his efforts this season, Vassart was named to the Conference Carolinas First Team.
Deeley and Vassart were named to the NCAA Division II All-District Men's Soccer Team District 3. The team is comprised of 13 student-athletes from the three conferences that make up the Southeast region: Conference Carolinas, Peach Belt Conference and South Atlantic Conference.
By earning spots on the All-District squads, both Deeley and Vassart will be eligible for the Academic All-America Team ballot. The announcement of the Academic All-American teams will be made in December.
