Vassart Named Player of the Year, Highlights Three Men's Soccer All-Conference Selections

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Three Lees-McRae College men's soccer players were selected to the All-Conference Carolinas teams, the league announced today (Thursday, Nov. 1).

Pol Vassart highlighted the selections being named Offensive Player of the Year and also being named to the All-Conference Carolinas first team, while sophomore midfielder Agustin Ortiz was also named to the all-conference first team. Junior defender Harvey McMorrow was also named to the all-conference second team.

Vassart becomes the ninth player in LMC history to be named Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year. This marks the third time in program history that a Bobcat has won the award in back-to-back years, after Tom Deely received the honor last season. Vassart led the conference in goals this season with 15 and points with 39, while being tied for second in the league in assists with nine. In conference play, Vassart totaled seven goals and five assists for 19 points, which was the highest total of any individual within Conference Carolinas. Vassart paced the conference in most offensive categories for most of the season. This is Vassart's fourth consecutive all-conference selection, and his second consecutive first team honor. Vassart finished his career at LMC in fourth on the career goals list (38), fifth on the all-time list in match-winning goals (11) and tied for fifth in single-season match-winning goals (five). He is also a two-time selection to the Conference Carolinas All-Academic Team. The Tournon sur-Rhone, France native is the son of Valerie and Yan Vassart, and is a business administration major.

Ortiz finished the season second on the team and tied for seventh in the conference with six goals, and also tied for third on the team and tied for sixth in the conference in assists with five. The sophomore also finished second on the team and tied for sixth in the league in points with 19. This is Ortiz's first career all-conference selection. The Mendoza, Argentina native is the son of Jorge Ortiz and Liliana Serrano, and is a business administration major.

McMorrow finished the season fourth on the team in goals with four, while being tied for the team lead and second in the league in assists with nine. His 17 points were the third-highest total on the team and ninth in the league. This is his second consecutive all-conference selection, as he was named to the All-Conference Carolinas First Team last season. The Maidstone, England native is the son of Hayley Honey, and is a business administration major.

The Bobcats finished the season 8-7-2, and reached the Conference Carolinas tournament quarterfinals.
