King edges Lees-McRae, 2-1

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision on the road at rival King University Wednesday night in Conference Carolinas action. The loss pushes Lees-McRae's record to 3-8-2 overall and 3-4-1 in conference action.

After the Tornado netted the first goal of the match in the 22nd minute, the Bobcats eventually tied the score at 1-1 thanks to a goal from Eduardo Olavide. For Olavide, it was his third goal of his freshman season. With the score knotted at a goal a piece, the Tornado netted the eventual game-winner in the 67th minute and held on for the 2-1 victory.

Statistically speaking there was not a ton of difference between King and Lees-McRae on Wednesday. King held the slight edge in shots (14-13) but the Bobcats held the edge in corner kicks (5-3). In addition to Olavide's attempt that was on target, Palani Nieknul, Francisco Silvestre and Connor Hahn also posted shots on goal in the match.

Sophomore Anton Sundstrom played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bobcats on Wednesday. Sundstrom made four saves on six opportunities but saw his record dip to 3-8-2 with the loss.

The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday when they host Barton in another key conference match. Saturday's contest, which will serve as the team's senior day, is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m.
