JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Lees-McRae College swimming programs continued to show substantial progress Saturday as they took on Carson-Newman in a non-conference meet. Several new personal and season bests were set for the Bobcats on the day.
Every Bobcat that competed against the Eagles set either a season-best mark or personal-best in their given events. Junior Arsham Mirzaei took the lone event win for Lees-McRae on the day winning the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 47.87. In addition to that performance, Mirzaei also set a new personal-best mark in the 50 yard freestyle (21.67) and was a part of Lees-McRae's 200 yard medley relay team that also set a new season-best time Saturday.
Joining Mirzaei on the relay team was the trio of John David McCray, Javier Sanchez and Bailey Lupo. This trio also had put together their best efforts this season in their individual events. McCray in the 200 yard backstroke (1:56.45), Sanchez in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:13.80) and Lupo in the 100 yard freestyle (50.41). Additionally, Will Hardin also put forth his season-best mark in the 500 yard freestyle (5:45.86).
The women's team also had a solid day with plenty of improving marks. Jennifer Paul nearly won the 200 yard freestyle with a new career-best time of 2:00.93. Paul's time was just .78 seconds off the winning mark. Elli Seabrook (200 yard backstroke, 500 yard freestyle), Kayla Fleming (200 yard breaststroke, 50 yard freestyle) also showed improvement on the day in their events, while Kaci Thornton competed for the team for the first time Saturday.
