Swimming notches a pair of victories Friday in Kentucky

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lees-McRae College swimming programs each picked up a victories Friday afternoon in Kentucky. The men's team defeated Thomas More University 106-36 but fell to the University of Cumberlands, 127-64. The women's squad, meanwhile, also defeated Thomas More, 78-50, but dropped a decision to Cumberlands, 142-35.

Standout Swims – The pair of victories by the Bobcats were a result of several key swims. Arsham Mirzaei picked up a victory in the 100 yard freestyle event with a time of 47.65. Teammate Javier Sanchez notched a pair of wins of his own in the 200 yard butterfly (2:00.17) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:14.68). Finally, John David McCray also had a good day with two wins to his credit in the 200 yard freestyle (1:47.93) and 200 yard backstroke (1:58.47).

Freshman Jennifer Paul posted the lone event victory for the women's team Friday in the 500 yard freestyle event with a time of 5:34.56. Kaci Thornton also had a solid outing as she competed in the 1,000 yard freestyle event for the first time in her career.  

Coach's Take – "The goal of this meet was to better our times set earlier this season," said Lees-McRae Head Coach Sean Weddell. "We had several swimmers that accomplished just that, and I would like to see them all improve again tomorrow."

Next Up – The Bobcats will take on the same two schools and Bethel University on Saturday afternoon. The action gets underway at 4 p.m.
