ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College swimming teams had a strong first day of the two-day event against Chowan and Barton on Friday afternoon. Overall, the Bobcats posted four individual event victories on the day.
Christian Nishimura collected his first two event victories of his Bobcat career to lead the men's team. Nishimura won the 50 yard breaststroke and the 100 yard IM. Teammates Arsham Mirzaei (50y free) and Javier Sanchez (200y breaststroke) collected the other victories for Lees-McRae on the day.
In addition to event victories, the Bobcats had several other swims that placed within the top three of their given events. John David McCray (1000y free, 200y free) had two of these, while Sanchez (100y IM), Mirzaei (100y fly) and Bailey Lupo (50y free) had top three finishes as well. The women's team had six top three finishes as well. Sophia Vanderpool (100y IM, 50y breaststroke) had two, while the quartet of Jenna Morris (1000y free), Hannah Company (100y backstroke), Kayla Fleming (50y free) and Molly Layde (200y free) all finished in the top three in their given events. Rounding out the results for the Bobcats on Friday were a trio of second place finishes in the men's 400y medley relay and the men's and women's 200y medley relay races.
"The meet went well," said LMC Head Coach Sean Weddell. We had good swims on both the men's and women's teams. Depending on the opponent we had several wins on each side as well. Goal for tomorrow is to beat Chowan in the combined scores and win more individual races out right."
The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at noon against Chowan and Barton.
