MEADOWVIEW, Va. – The Lees-McRae College swimming teams began the 2020 portion of their schedules by sweeping Emory & Henry College and Bridgewater College Saturday afternoon.
"The meet went really well," said LMC Head Coach Sean Weddell. "We still have some things to work on technique wise but a good start the new semester and lead in to conference."
Lees-McRae had no shortage of event victories on Saturday. The women's team racked up seven victories in 11 events, while the men's team won 10 of 11 events on the day. Kayla Fleming, Molly Layde, Sophia Vanderpool, Hannah Company and Jenna Morris all recorded wins from the women's team. From the men's team, the trio of Christian Nishimura, Arsham Mirzaei and John David McCray won two events each. Bailey Lupo and Javier Sanchez picked up the final two event wins on the day for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats will look to build on this performance next weekend when they return to action. First, Lees-McRae will compete in another tri-meet next Friday against King and Mars Hill at Tennessee High School in Bristol. Following that meet, the Bobcats will take on Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday in Hickory, N.C.
