Banner Elk, NC--The Lees-McRae Bobcats' Men's Tennis Team will be hosting 13th ranked (NAIA) Virginia Intermont College, for their first spring match Friday at 3:00. Virginia Intermont is the first on the Lees-McRae Men's Tennis schedule which features 7 nationally ranked division II opponents and two Divisions I opponents.
When asked about his feelings on the upcoming match and season, Coach Paul Goode said "We are excited about getting started. We have a deep team with every player able to play in multiple spots in the line-up. I feel good about our chances Friday. Virginia Intermont beat us last spring so we are eager for the rematch."
The Bobcats will go into this Friday's match with a young team consisting of four freshman and four sophomores. Although made up of lower classman, the team finds strong and promising players throughout the lineup. Mojski and Sumner were both voted by the leagues tennis coaches as preseason CVAC "Players to Watch."
This will be the season opener for both teams. Leading Virginia
will be Senior, Milan Kosicky and juniors, Andrew Conley and Jon
Jonsson. These teams last met during the spring 2006 season where
the Bobcats were defeated 3-6. The match will be held on Friday,
February 2nd at 3:00 pm at the C.D.Chesley Tennis Centre, and
admission to all matches is free.
