The Lees-McRae College men's tennis team earned its first Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference victory of the season by sweeping host St. Andrews Presbyterian College, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Scotland County Tennis Complex. The Bobcats improve to 2-3, (1-2 CVAC) winning all six singles matches in straight sets en route to the sweep while the Knights fell to 0-4, (0-2 CVAC).
The Bobcats took a 3-0 lead heading into singles play after winning all three doubles contests. Blair Propert and Romulas Teague squeaked out a 9-7 victory over Daniel Reuben and Cory Fleck of the Knights in the closest doubles match of the day.
Shaun Sumner, Alek Mojski, Paul Meunow and Propert all easily took their singles matches. Ricardo Velazquez, (pictured top left), defeated Andres Centeno 7-6, 6-1 while Teague took down the Knights Juan Carlos 6-3, 7-5 in the closest single matches of the game. Sumner's win improved his singles record to 5-0 this season.
The Bobcats will travel to Coker Sunday afternoon and continue
their CVAC play. Matches will get started at 1:00pm.
