SUMTER, SC--The Lees-McRae Bobcats tennis team participated in the Conference Carolinas Fall Tournament last weekend, coming away with impressive performances from many players in both singles and doubles play.
In the A Draw, sophomores Shaun Sumner (Burlington, NC) and Alek Mojski (Berlin, Germany) battled all the way to the semi-finals before bowing out to Vitor Lage of Mount Olive and Anderson's Renato Assuncao respectively. To qualify for the semifinals, Mojski managed to outlast the 2007 Conference Player and number one seed Guilherme Serra 3-6, 6-3, 10-7. Sumner, the number two seed, defeated Queens' Ankit Mody 6-2, 6-1, and Mount Olive's Indradeep Mitra 6-1, 6-1 before falling to Lage.
In doubles play, Paul Meunow (Tega Cay, SC) and Michael Ridenhour (Mooresville, NC) dropped a first round match 3-8 to Limestone's Alex Fager and Nicholas Shumate, moving the pair to the consolation C draw. Meunow and Ridenhour faced teammates Tim Gower (Walkersville, MD) and Jesse Laughrun (Burnsville, NC), defeating the pair of freshman 8-4. Meunow and Ridenour then avenged their previous first round loss to Fager and Shumate in the consolation championship, winning 8-5.
