Boiling Springs, NC--After winning the point in doubles action against the Division I host school Gardner-Webb University, the Bobcats lost all six singles to fall to 4-3 on the season. The Bulldogs climb to 4-5 for the year.
The duo of Shaun Sumner (Burlington, NC) and Nandor Solymosi (Drebecen, Hungary) battled the Bulldogs in the number one doubles, finally breaking the serve of Evgeny Slesarev and Carlos Quijano to take the match 8-6. Number three doubles of Alek Mojski (Berlin, Germany) and Romulus Teague (Hickory, NC) also won their match 8-6. The Bulldogs won their only doubles match at the #2 spot over freshmen Travis VanHoy (Union Grove, NC) and Michael Ridenhour (Mooresville, NC), only allowing the duo three points.
In singles action freshman Solymosi clawed his way back into the match after falling behind 6-2 in game one, taking the second game 6-1 and forcing a third game which ended with score of 6-4 in the Bulldogs favor. Both Mojski and Sumner (#2 & #3 respectively) dropped their matches 6-4, 6-3. VanHoy, in the fourth slot, lost a close 7-5 game one before falling 6-2 in the second. The Bulldogs handled Ridenhour(#5) and Propert(#6) giving them the sweep in singles action.
The Bobcats will resume play when they travel to Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, NC on Sunday, February 24. First serve is set for 1:00pm.
