Greeneville, TN--The Bobcats fell to host school #36 Tusculum College Friday afternoon in men's tennis action despite capturing wins at the top two flights in singles action. With the 7-2 loss the Lees-McRae falls to 7-7 on the year while the Pioneers climb to 10-1 on the year.
Freshman Nandor Solymosi (Drebecen, Hungary) had a decisive 6-2, 6-2 win over the ranked team's #1 (Nicolas Bigler) while Shaun Sumner (Burlington, NC), grabbed his fifth straight win, and what would prove to be the final point for the Bobcats, with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over #2 Sergio Espinosa. Co-captain Alek Mojski (Berlin, Germany) rallied from a 6-3 first set loss to win the second 7-6, forcing the match to a third set before falling 6-4 to Carlos Garcia. The Pioneers handled the remaining lineup, defeating Travis VanHoy (Union Grove, NC) 6-0, 6-0, Romulus Teague (Hickory, NC) 6-2, 6-2, and Blair Propert (Gold Coast, Australia) 6-1, 6-1 at the four, five and six respectively.
The Bobcats were unable to gain any ground against the Pioneers in doubles action as Tusculum competed the sweep there to win their fifth consecutive match, 7-2.
The Bobcats will face three opponents in the next week with the first match coming Wednesday, March 26th against NCAA Division I opponent Appalachian State in Boone, NC.
