Banner Elk, NC--In the final Conference Carolinas regular season match of the year, the men's tennis team took a 5-0 win in a weather shortened match over the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons Sunday afternoon improving their league record to 6-3 and knotting their season record at 11-11. The Falcons fall to 4-4 in the conference and 7-6 overall.
The Lees-McRae Bobcats, out to win their fourth consecutive match, began the day by sweeping the Falcons in doubles action. The only close contest came in No. 1 doubles where freshman Nandor Solymosi (Drebecen, Hungary) and Alek Mojski (Berlin, Germany) outlasted Johan de Wit/Philip Lawson 9-7. Both the second and third flights where decided by 8-2 scores in favor of the Bobcats. Shaun Sumner (Burlington, NC) teamed up with Travis VanHoy (Union Grove, NC) at the two, while the Gold Coast, Australia native Blair Propert played with regional player Romulus Teague (Hickory, NC) at the three.
In singles action only the No. 1 and 2 flights played in the weather-shortened contest. The Bobcats' Solymosi defeated Philip Lawson 6-4, 6-1 in the first slot, while Alek Mojski won a 6-1, 6-3 contest over AJ Flores at the two to seal the victory for the Bobcats. Mojski finished the year 8-1 in league play.
The Bobcats hope to carry the momentum gained in the last week into the Conference Carolinas Tournament April 18-20. The tournament, hosted by Erksine College, will be held at Sumter Tennis Center in Sumter, SC with matchups to be announced by conference officials later this week.
