Bobcats Climb National Polls with No. 20 Ranking
BANNER ELK, N.C. - With five upsets of ranked teams this season, the Lees-McRae College men's tennis team has vaulted 19 spots on the ITA Division II Men's Tennis Rankings to No. 20.
This is the first time the Bobcats have been in the top 20 since
February 25th of 2004 when they received the No. 19 ranking. The
team's highest ranking came in February of 2001 when they received
the No. 7 ranking.
The team has run through the Conference Carolinas season with an impressive 7-0 record with their final match coming Wednesday at Pfeiffer. With a win, the Bobcats will clinch their first regular season title since 2001.
The team has also moved up to seventh in the ITA Southeast Regional Rankings.
The marquee win of the season for the Bobcats came on February 28th as they defeated then ranked No. 17 Anderson University 5-4. The win snapped the Trojans 43-conference match win streak.
The Bobcats also have upset wins over Queens, Tusculum, Limestone, Augusta State and Mount Olive.
