Men's Tennis Team Advances to Semifinals with 5-1 Win Over Queens

SUMTER, S.C. - The Lees-McRae College Bobcats advanced to the second round of the Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Tournament at the Palmetto Tennis Center with a 5-1 win over the Queens University of Charlotte Royals.

The Bobcats took a 2-1 lead after doubles getting wins from Travis VanHoy and Shaun Sumner at the number two position, 8-3, and from Alek Mojski and Tyler Grove at the number three position, 8-3.

Needing only three more points to advance Sumner won at number three 6-0, 6-0 to give the Bobcats a 3-1 led, and Steve Karendal won at number six 6-2, 6-2 to make it 4-1. Grove sealed the 5-1 win with his 6-1, 7-6 win at number five singles.

The No. 1 seeded Bobcats will advance to the semifinals to face the No. 5 seeded Barton College Bulldogs Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
