Men’s Tennis Team Ranked 15th Nationally in Presesason Poll

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's tennis team heads into the 2010 season ranked No. 15 national and No. 5 in the Southeast Region according to the ITA.

The team finished the 2009 season with a 19-7 overall record and an 8-0 conference record to earn the Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship. The Bobcats fell in the conference tournament finals, but advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Bobcats won their opening round match, but fell in the second round to end their season.

Individually, Nandor Solymosi is ranked 21st nationally and 7th in the southeast region. As a doubles team, Solymosi and Travis VanHoy are ranked 24th nationally and 6th in the southeast region.

"I have seen the men's team grow over the years and return to the national scene," Athletic Director Craig McPhail said. "I am so proud of their recent accomplishment, and their commitment to the program that is such a fine representation of our college."

"I am very proud of the work my guys have put in to get us to this point," head coach Paul Goode said. "There are many things we want to accomplish in the coming season, and we are very focused on those goals. I think we will use this as motivation to work hard over the winter to prepare for the spring season."

The Bobcats will begin the 2010 season February 1, at Augusta State.
