Turner Tabbed as Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach
BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Lees-McRae College Athletic Director, Craig McPhail, has announced the hiring of Keith Turner as the men's and women's tennis coach for the 2010-2011 season.
"I am excited to have the chance to work with Keith," McPhail said. "He represents the hardworking character I was looking for and has a passion for tennis development, building teams and continuing our great tradition of tennis at Lees-McRae College."
Turner comes to Lees-McRae via Conference Carolinas opponent, Limestone College. Turner took over the Saints program in 2007. In 2008 his men's team was 11-7 overall and he completely reformed the Lady Saints program. In 2010, Turner was the Conference Carolinas Men's Coach of the Year and his team made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Turner has had 13 All-Conference players and made two NCAA appearances.
He is certified with the U.S. Professional Tennis Association and comes with an extensive teaching background at various tennis clubs.
Turner played his collegiate tennis at Boston University before finishing his career with Western Michigan where he received a degree in Public Law. He also holds a master's degree in sports administration from Wayne State University.
"I find Keith to be an up and coming coach who will get a chance to further progress our tennis programs at Lees-McRae," McPhail said.
