Bobcats rally past Trojans, 7-2Box score
MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College men's tennis team battled its way to a 7-2 victory over Mount Olive College in Conference Carolinas play on Monday evening, rallying from an early 1-0 hole with seven straight points.
Mount Olive's (6-4, 3-2 CC) Alexandre Querios and Akio Mariano kicked off the day with an 8-6 win over Lees-McRae's (4-5, 3-0 CC) Alexander Hayes (Mexico City, Mexico) and Skylar Warren (Asheville, N.C.) in the first doubles flight before the Bobcats rallied. Travis VanHoy (Olin, N.C.) and Pedro De Sousa Nunes (Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil) evened the tally for the Bobcats with a 9-8 (7-4) win over Thiago Dualiby and Murilo Pelegrino, before Nandor Solymosi (Drebecen, Hungary) and Callum Loveridge (Ashbourne, England) put LMC on top with an 8-5 victory against Yoann Pham and Diego Sender.
Solymosi notched his third straight singles win with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Queiros in the first flight, before VanHoy gave the Bobcats a 4-1 lead with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 decision against Gabriel Santana. Hayes then delivered the deciding point for LMC with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Pham. After Nunes defeated Mariano, 6-3, 6-3, Graham Battle (Boone, N.C.) rallied from three match points in the second set against Dualiby to claim a 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-8 win at the No. 5 singles matchup. Sender capped the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Jacob Darling (Katikati, New Zealand).
Lees-McRae returns to action on Monday, Mar. 21 when the Bobcats travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on Augusta State University on the Queens University of Charlotte campus at 2:30 p.m.
