HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College senior Travis VanHoy (Olin, N.C.) has been named to the 2011 Conference Carolinas men's tennis all-academic team for the first time in his career, announced league officials on Tuesday.
The 2011 conference academic team features 19 juniors and seniors from nine of the league's member institutions who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Pfeiffer University leads the way with four selections, while Barton College, Erskine College, and Queens University of Charlotte each placed three on the team.
VanHoy has played at the No. 2 singles spot throughout the season, entering the week having won three straight matches, including a hard-fought three-set victory over Limestone's Mike Stephenson on Sunday. The Olin, N.C. native has also teamed with Pedro De Sousa Nunes (Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil) for several impressive doubles victories this season, including wins against NCAA Division I opponents Appalachian State University and Elon University.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Wednesday when the Bobcats host Queens University of Charlotte in a conference matchup at 2 p.m.
