SALISBURY, N.C. --- The North Georgia College and State University men's tennis team swept singles and doubles play en route to a 9-0 victory over Lees-McRae College in non-conference play on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Catawba College.
North Georgia's (5-6) tandem of Felipe Friedrich and Matheus Guida kicked off the day with an 8-1 victory against Lees-McRae's (0-6) duo of Joao Araujo (Curitiba, Puerto Rico) and Carlos Pinel (Vitoria, Espírito Santo, Brazil), before Giovani Santos and Sam Gantt defeated Taduez Poplawski (Asheville, N.C.) and Hang Lak Choi (Newton, N.C.), 8-2.
Ernesto Farinas and Andy McMaster gave the Saints a 3-0 advantage with an 8-1 decision against Jesse Artrip (Cleveland, Va.) and Adam Chivers (Wilbraham, Mass.). Friedrich defeated Araujo, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, as Santos clinched the team victory for the Saints with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Poplawski in the second flight.
Anthony Veryard registered a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Pinel in the third flight, while Gantt defeated Choi, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Matheus Pineda and Farinas then capped the day with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins over Artrip and Chivers, respectively.
Lees-McRae returns to the courts on Wednesday when the Bobcats travel to Harrogate, Tenn. to take on Lincoln Memorial University in non-conference action at 2 p.m.
