Men's Tennis Competes at Bluefield College Fall Invitational

BLUEFIELD, Va. - The Lees-McRae College men's tennis team competed in the Bluefield College Fall Invitational over the weekend (Sept. 7-9).

Harrison Morris and Miodrag Popovic dropped their opening match in the B flight of men's doubles to Maciej Sobolewski and Younes Mouktabil of Florida Tech 6-4, before falling to Alejandro Feliciano and Charles Jabaley of King (Tenn.).

Rusty Batten and Matt Meluch defeated Henrique Sada and Adam Katona of Concord University 6-2 in the C flight of men's doubles, before falling to Gaston Aguilera and Marco Meon of Tusculum 6-0.

The team of Fitzgerald Lomp and James Kirkham also competed in the D flight of men's doubles.

In singles play, Popvic competed in the B flight while Hanquing Wang played in the C flight. Meluch came up with a big 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win in the D flight over Fedor Kulakov of Bluefield College, before dropping his next two matches. Batten competed in the E flight of singles play, while Brandon Caldwell competed in the F flight, while Kirkham played in the G flight. Colton Porter also played in the H flight.

The team is back in action on Sunday (Sept. 16) when they travel to UVA-Wise. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
