Tennis hits the road for Catawba on Thursday, Milligan on Saturday, Men to play Johnson C. Smith on Sunday

BANNER ELK, N.C. - The Lees-McRae College men's and women's tennis teams are back in action on Thursday (Feb. 21) when they travel to Catawba for non-league contests beginning at 2 p.m., before heading to Milligan on Saturday (Feb. 23) for a 9 a.m. start. The men will then travel to Johnson C. Smith on Sunday (Feb. 24) for a noon start. 

About the Bobcats

Men - Lees-McRae enters the week at 2-2 overall. The Bobcats are a combined 4-6 in doubles play on the season, while also owning a combined 13-11 singles record. Four different doubles tandems have one win on the season, while Matt Meluch leads singles play with a 3-1 record. Harrison Morris and Colton Porter each have two singles wins on the year, while three others each have one singles win.

Women - The Bobcats enter the week with a 2-3 overall record. Lees-McRae has put together a 7-8 combined doubles record as well as 11 singles wins on the season. Zeynep Cakirer and Mackenzie Langmade lead the doubles effort with two wins, while five other doubles pairs each have one win on the year. Five different Bobcats each have two wins in singles play, while Nursharneem Shamsuddin also has one.

About the Opponents

Catawba Men - The Indians enter the week at 3-2 overall. The team comes into the matchup with a 7-8 combined doubles record as well as an 18-12 singles record. Three different doubles pairs have recorded two wins each for the Indians on the year. Cason Hiers leads the team in singles play with five wins, while Ryan Reid and Adam Rocko each have four singles wins. Four different Indians have also recorded one win each in singles play.

Catawba Women - Catawba enters the week at 6-0, defeating Shaw on Tuesday (Feb. 18). The Lady Indians have put together a combined 13-2 doubles record as well as a 27-3 singles record so far on the season. The team of Carolina Correia and Erisa Onchi as well as Lauren Laughton and Olivia Wooldridge each have three doubles wins on the season, while Sophie Hirsch and Una Pandurevic have two wins on the season. Five other doubles tandems each have one win on the season. Correia is the only Lady Indian with five singles wins on the year, while four others each have four singles wins and Emily Corcoran also has one singles win.

Milligan Men - Milligan enters the contest with a 3-2 overall record. The Buffaloes have put together a 12-3 combined doubles record as well as a 21-9 combined singles record so far on the season. The tandem of Taylor Graalman and Mason Grear is 4-0 in doubles play, while Griffin Leonard and Charlie Moseley are 2-1. Five other doubles tandems have posted wins so far on the season. Graalman leads the team in singles play with five wins, while Thomas Hurt has four wins. Three other Buffaloes have each posted three singles wins on the year, while Moseley also has two singles wins.

Milligan Women - Milligan enters the week at 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Buffaloes are a combined 10-5 in doubles play and also 22-8 in singles play. Three different doubles tandems have each posted two wins on the season, while another four pairs have each earned one win. Karson Light leads the Buffaloes in singles play with five wins, while three others have posted four wins apiece so far on the year. Mackenzie Grady has won two matches so far in singles play, while three others have each posted one singles win on the year.

Johnson C. Smith - The Bulls enter the week at 0-5 overall.

Men

Since 2006, this will be the 12th meeting between Lees-McRae and Catawba in men's tennis. Catawba leads the series in that span 8-3.

Since 2006, this will be the third all-time meeting between Lees-McRae and Milligan in men's tennis. Lees-McRae has won the previous two meetings.

Since  2006, this will be the third all-time meeting between Lees-McRae and Johnson C. Smith, and the first meeting since 2009. Lees-McRae has won both of the previous two meetings. 

Women

Since 2006, this will be the 13th all-time meeting between Lees-McRae and Catawba in women's tennis. Catawba leads the all-time series in that span 12-0.

Since 2006, this will be the third all-time meeting between Lees-McRae and Milligan in men's tennis. Lees-McRae has won the previous two meetings.
