Johnson City, TN--The Lees-McRae College men's track & field team took to the track Friday and Saturday, January 18-19, at the Niswonger Invitational at ETSU in Johnson City, TN. The meet showcased some of the world's top collegiate, post collegiate, and professional athletes. Over 1,100 athletes from 60 teams competed in the two-day event including athletes from Clemson and Virginia Tech as well as some professional athletes from Reebok, Total Sports and others.
The top performance on the first day of the meet for the Bobcats belonged to Alan Bachman (Nanjemoy, MD/H.E. Lackey HS) in the men's 400m dash. Bachman completed the race in 50.26 seconds to catapult him to an 11th place finish out of 90 competitors. Bachman also competed in the men's 60m dash and finished with a time of 7.20 seconds to place him tied for 3rd all-time at LMC at that distance.
On the second day of the competition, sophomore Jonathan Arthur (Pine Level, NC) soared 14'7.25" in the men's pole vault competition. He now shares the school record in the men's pole vault with freshman Ryan Oakes in what is shaping up to be a terrific intrasquad competition. Oakes cleared 14'0 in the men's pole vault as well.
Also competing for the Bobcats on the second day of competition were Josh Blanc, Jon Bernal, and Matt Barrett in the men's 5,000m; Billy Hon, Chris Glenn, and Michael Connor in the men's long jump; Joe Daher in the men's shot put; and Danny Hogbin in the men's high jump.
The Bobcat men's track & field team will compete again on February 8th at the Mountaineer Open at Appalachian State University.
