BOONE, N.C - Ryan Oakes' performance highlighted the Lees-McRae College track and field teams during their opening weekend at the Appalachian Invitational Indoor Meet with his pole vault of 15' 7" inches (4.75 meters) to win the event and to provisionally qualify him for the NCAA DII National Championship Meet in Houston, Texas.
Oakes' mark was also a school record for an indoor pole vaulting
event and his career high in pole vaulting in an indoor meet.
Oakes' currently holds the outdoor school record 16'1" mark.
Corey Alexander finished the triple jump with a 40' 8.75" mark, and Joy Hall ran the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.74 seconds for the Bobcats.
"Today was a great day for our team to open track and field season and to enter the holidays on a positive note," head coach Ley Fletcher said. "The meet should have given our freshmen valuable experience, as well as given the rest of our team something positive to build on when we resume in January. Ryan's performance could be an indication that he is about to have an incredible year."
