JOHNSON CITY, TENN. - Jon Arthur's pole vault height of 16'01" placed him second in the pole vault at the Niswonger Invitational Friday and Saturday at East Tennessee State University. Arthur's height now has him eighth on the list for the Indoor Track Nationals.
Arthur, who was placed eighth at last week's meet, has given himself a great chance to make it to nationals, setting a new indoor school record in pole vault and moving himself up the list for nationals. Only the top 12 vaulters are invited to nationals. The last weekend to qualify is March 1st.
Joe Daher also followed with a new indoor school record with a 42'7.50" toss in the weight throw.
"I was very proud of our team's effort against some very tough Division I and Division II competition," head coach Ley Fletcher said. "We found some athletes to fill some holes this weekend that should put us in a better position to compete for the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Championship in April, and we improved in a lot of events this weekend. If we can keep improving each meet we will be where we want to be at the end of the outdoor season."
