NEW ORLEANS --- Eight student-athletes from the Lees-McRae College men's track and field team have been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association all-Southeast Region Indoor Team, including a trio of dual-event recipients, announced USTFCCCA officials Thursday.
Lees-McRae has sat atop the region poll throughout the indoor season, posting 26 individual top-10 finishes and three school records. The Bobcats recorded their most impressive performance of the campaign on Feb. 19, tallying 15 top-10 showings, 10 personal-bests, and one school record at Appalachian State University's ASU Invitational.
"It is a great honor for our program, and a reward for the hard work our athletes have put in during the indoor season through a very tough winter," said head coach Ley Fletcher. "I am very proud of each of them, and I believe they will take the momentum gained during the Indoor season and let it carry them through the outdoor season."
Headlining the all-region group for Lees-McRae are dual-event recipients Corey Alexander (Atlanta, Ga.) and Eric Cloy (Ball Ground, Ga.) in the long jump and triple jump, as well as Chris Turner (Clemson, S.C.) in the high jump and long jump.
Also garnering all-region honors in the pole vault are sophomore Kevin Dever (Leesburg, N.J.) and freshman Evan Webb (Salisbury, N.C.), as Bradley King (Hildebran, N.C.) and Brandon Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) each earned region recognition in the 60-meter hurdles. Jordan Wilbur (Chesterfield, S.C.) also received all-region honors in the weight throw for the Bobcats.
Lees-McRae opens the outdoor season on Saturday when the Bobcats travel to Hickory, N.C. to participate in the Power Sox Invitational, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University.
