HICKORY, N.C. --- Craig Simpkins (Boiling Springs, S.C.) finished first in the 3,000-meter steeple chase, and Brandon Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) claimed the top spot in the 110-meter hurdles to lead the Lees-McRae College men's track and field team and notch two of 11 top-five performances for the Bobcats at Lenoir-Rhyne University's Power Sox Invitational on Saturday.
Simpkins posted a time of 9:50.00 in the steeple chase to claim the top spot, while Williams finished the 110-meter hurdles with a mark of 16.27 seconds to place first. Bradley King (Hildebran, N.C.) finished second in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 57.73 seconds, while also placing third in the 110-meter hurdles with a mark of 17.32 seconds.
In the 4x100-meter relay, King, Williams, Sam Youse (Winston-Salem, N.C.), and Randal Wright (Westminster, S.C.) also posted a time of 43.51 seconds to finish fourth, while Austin High (Chesnee, S.C.) placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a mark of 4:15.90. Michael Davis (Independence, Va.) and Jared Lupton (Nampa, Idaho) finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 800-meter run, while Stephen Mostella (Winter Haven, Fla.) placed eighth in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.21 seconds.
Evan Webb (Salisbury, N.C.) placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.65 meters, as Kevin Dever (Leesburg, N.J.) finished third with a vault of 3.35 meters. Devan Mackey (Hickory, N.C.) posted a fifth-place showing in the shot put with a throw of 10.98 meters, while Jordan Wilbur (Chesterfield, S.C.) finished eighth with a mark of 10.58 meters.
Shawn Rowand (Charmco, W.Va.)posted a personal-best of 44.10 meters in the javelin, while Youse and Eric Cloy (Ball Ground, Ga.) finished seventh and eighth in the long jump with marks of 6.28 and 6.20 meters, respectively.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Mar. 17 when the Bobcats travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to participate in the Wake Forest Invitational, hosted by Wake Forest University.
