HICKORY, N.C. --- Bradley King (Hildebran, N.C.) finished first in the 400-meter hurdles, and placed third in the 110-meter race on Saturday to lead the Lees-McRae College men's track and field team to a fifth-place performance at the 2011 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University.
UNC Pembroke took home the team title with 129 points, followed by Mars Hill College (122.50), Anderson University (96.50), Carson-Newman College (86), and Lees-McRae (68). Mount Olive College was sixth with 64 points, followed by King College (49), Lenoir-Rhyne (47), Clayton State University (38), and Wingate University (37).
Corey Alexander (Atlanta, Ga.) opened the day for the Bobcats with a 10th-place showing in the long jump, posting a mark of 6.19 meters as Eric Cloy (Ball Ground, Ga.) finished 12th with a leap of 6.10 meters. Alexander followed with a ninth-place finish in the triple jump, recording a mark of 12.45 meters.
Evan Webb (Salisbury, N.C.) turned in one of the highlight performances of the day for the Bobcats in the pole vault, posting a personal-best of 4.40 meters en route to a second-place finish. Kevin Dever (Leesburg, N.J.) also placed third with a mark of 3.95 meters.
King started his day with a third-place showing in the 110-meter hurdles, posting a mark of 16.02 seconds to finish one spot behind teammate Brandon Williams' (Raleigh, N.C.) time of 15.89 seconds. Richard Lane (Concord, N.C.) also placed sixth with a mark of 16.25 seconds. Craig Simpkins (Boiling Springs, S.C.) posted his best time of the season in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing second with a time of 9:49.33.
Austin High (Chesnee, S.C.) placed eighth in the 1,500-meter run with a personal-best of 4:09.20, before King won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.04 seconds. The quartet of King, Dever, Stephen Mostella (Winter Haven, Fla.), and Jared Lupton (Nampa, Idaho) then closed out the day for the Bobcats with a fifth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, posting a time of 3:31.94.
On Friday, Jordan Wilbur (Chesterfield, S.C.) started the weekend with a sixth-place showing in the hammer throw, posting a mark of 33.97 meters, while Devan Mackey (Hickory, N.C.) and Dimitrius Frazier (Charlotte, N.C.) grabbed the ninth and 10th spots with throws of 30.25 and 29.88 meters, respectively.
Shawn Rowand (Charmco, W.Va.) placed sixth in the javelin throw with a mark of 41.64 meters, while Lane finished fifth in the high jump with a posting of 1.80 meters.
Lees-McRae is expected to return 23 letter-winners from this year's squad, including school-record-holders Simpkins and King.
