Track & Field wraps up day one of the 49er Classic Friday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College track and field programs closed out the first day of the 49er Open Friday afternoon in Charlotte.

LMC was led Friday by freshman Jalen Martin. Martin opened his first outdoor meet of his collegiate career with a 20th place finish in the long jump. His leap of 6.64m ranked second among Conference Carolinas athletes in the event.

In addition to Martin's performance in the long jump, Cooper Abernathy and Austin Thompson also finished in the top 40 in their respective events. Like Martin, Abernathy made his outdoor debut Friday and finished 35th in the hammer throw with a toss of 34.64m. Thompson, meanwhile, led all LMC runners with a 39th place finish in the 5000m run with a time of 15:43.07.

Tristin Bertie – Men's 1500m Run – 125th – 4:19.64

Jordyn Halvorsen – Women's 1500m Run – 129th – 5:31.86
