Jeff Watson is in his second year as the throws coach for the Lees-McRae Track and Field team.
In his first season, Watson led the Lees-McRae throwers to a record-breaking year en route to a conference championship for the men’s team and a third place conference championship finish for the women’s team. Both teams also captured the Southeast Regional Championship crown.
During the 2009-2010 season, eight of 12 school records in the throws were broken. Four Lees-McRae throwers earned all-conference honors, including a Conference Carolinas champion. At the Southeast Regional meet, five athletes took home all-regional honors, and two athletes won regional championships. Watson earned Southeast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year honors for both the men’s and women’s teams respectively.
Watson, a graduate of Anderson University, was the team’s MVP in 2003. During his career, he finished in the top ten of every meet in his career. He set school records in the shot-put and discus, as well.
After his career ended at Anderson, Watson returned to Chesterfield as the school’s throws coach for the 2007 season. As a high school coach, he coached a state champion in discus, a third place finisher in the discus and a state runner-up in the shot put. He has coached over ten individual region champions and several All-Region and All-State athletes.
