After going 0-2 against nationally ranked teams on their Missouri road trip, the Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team avoided a winless weekend by defeating Peru State 3-0, (30-26, 30-23, 30-26). The win improves the Bobcats to 2-4 overall.
The Bobcats, hungry for a win, controlled each game from the opening service, with a .368 team hitting percentage in game two. Justin Harris led the Bobcats attack again with a team high 17 kills, hitting .400 for the match. Justin Wozniel, Grant Cassell and Marko Jovanovic each contributed nine, eight, and seven kills respectively. Elias Valentin led the Bobcats on the defensive side of the ball with nine kills while setter Luis Lazaballet put 37 assists. Wozniel, (pictured top left), was also a force at the net with three solo blocks and a block assist. The win snapped a four game losing skid for the Bobcats.
"Same day, different team energy, nice result," commented Jamie Petrik after the team's second game of the day. "Our guys played well as a team; they were scrappy at key moments and won the rallies that can make or break a game. They are tough to beat when they unite like this."
The Bobcats will hit the road again February 28th when they travel to Harrisburg, VA to take on #12 Eastern Mennonite. The Bobcats opened the season against EMU, ranked #10 at the time, at home with a 3-1 win.
