The Lees-McRae Bobcats volleyball team travel to the Mount Olive Men's Volleyball Tournament, falling to the host Trojans 3-0, (30-24, 30-19, 30-24), and defeating York (NY) College 3-0, (30-12, 30-9, 30-16). The weekend spilt moves the Bobcats record to 3-6 this season.
Pedro Penate led the host Trojans with 17 kills and one service ace. Jose Lanier added 11 kills, three blocks, and two aces while Mike Carroll had eight kills and a pair of blocks. Justin Wozniel led the Bobcats with ten kills, a pair of aces and three assists. Justin Harris chipped in with eight kills while Elias Valentin, currently the national leader in digs per game (4.63), added eleven more to his season total in the match against the Trojans. Bobcats setter Luis Lazaballet, (pictured top left), recorded 28 assists while also chipping in five digs and a pair of aces.
In their second match of the afternoon, York (NY) provided the opposition, with the Bobcats earning a convincing three game sweep. Grant Cassell and Stephen McDaniel led the attack this time around, tallying seven kills each while Justy Tevid contributed a career high six kills. Setter Luis Lazaballet added 26 assists and a pair of aces. Cassell was also good for five block assists and four aces. York was led by Michael Song and Alex Niles with three kills a piece.
The Bobcats will make their final road trip of the season,
traveling to California for a pair of games March 12-13. The
Bobcats will square off against California Baptist the 12th and
face Hope International the following day.
