BANNER ELK, N.C. - Colin Kelly's 20 kills gave the Lees-McRae
College Bobcats a 3-1 (30-24, 30-23, 34-36, 30-28) win over the
Grand Canyon University Antelopes Friday night in men's volleyball
action in Williams Gymansium.
The win improves the Bobcats to 6-1 on the season.
After two easy wins, 30-24 and 30-23, the Bobcats faltered with a
set three loss 36-34. In set four trailing 21-25 Lees-McRae
rallied to tie the match at 25 on an Antelope hitting error, then a
Kelly kill put the Bobcats up one, 26-25.
After Grand Canyon tied the set at 27, another Kelly kill and
an attack error by Grand Canyon put Lees-McRae up 29-27, but the
Antelopes responded with a kill to close the lead to 29-28.
Lees-McRae finished the set and the match on Kelly's final kill of
the day to give the Bobcats the 30-28 win.
Kelly led the Bobcats with 20 kills on 39 attempts. Chad Mercado
followed with 12 kills on 25 attempts with only four errors. The
Black brothers, Jeff and Ryan, contributed nine kills apiece.
Ryan's nine kills came on 13 attempts with no errors for a .692
hitting percentage to lead the team. Ryan also led the team with
three total blocks. Juan Ramirez handed out 54 assists and led the
team with 12 digs.
Lees-McRae will play two matches Saturday with the first one at
11:00 a.m. against Eastern Mennonite at King College and the second
one against Mount Olive College at 7 p.m. back in Williams
Gymnasium. The Bobcats will look to avenge their only loss of the
season in the night game against Mount Olive.
