Mercado powers way to Player of the Week honors

HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Lees-McRae College senior Chad Mercado (Orlando, Fla.) garnered Conference Carolinas men's volleyball Player of the Week honors for the first time this season Wednesday, earning the distinction after leading the Bobcats (8-7, 2-1 CC) to an impressive 4-1 worksheet over the last two weeks.

Mercado opened the span with a match-high 16 kills against King on Feb. 8, posting a .522 hitting percentage in the straight-set sweep. The senior opposite followed with a 15-kill performance against Limestone, as the Bobcats rallied from a two-set deficit to knock off the Saints in a five-set thriller.

After posting two kills on two swings against Washington Adventist, Mercado exploded in a straight-set sweep against NCAA Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology, notching 20 kills and just two errors on 31 attempts to tally a blistering .581 attack percentage. Mercado finished the week posting 17 kills in a five-set thriller against No. 11 Penn State on Saturday.

Lees-McRae returns to the court on Sunday when the Bobcats travel to Gaffney, S.C. to take on Washington Adventist in a neutral site match at 11 a.m. on the campus of Limestone College.
