Negron leads nation in digs per set
INDIANAPOLIS --- Sophomore Efrain Negron (Caguas, Puerto Rico) is leading the nation in digs per set, and the Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team is listed in 11 individual and team categories in the latest edition of the NCAA Division I men's volleyball statistics, announced NCAA officials Tuesday.
Lees-McRae is off to a 4-4 start this season, opening Conference Carolinas play with a straight-set sweep of Barton College to go along with a runner-up finish in the Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic this past weekend. The Bobcats enter the week ranked third in the nation in digs per set (9.8), eighth in aces per frame (1.4), 15th in blocks per set (2.38), 19th in winning percentage (0.50), and 26th in both assists per frame (10.73) and kills per set (11.5).
Negron has enjoyed a strong start to the season, averaging over three digs per set to enter the week leading the nation in that category. Sophomore Jose Ribas (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) is ranked seventh in aces per set (0.46) and 23rd in kills per frame (3.46), while Randy Ramirez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) is listed 25th in assists per set (9.45).
Joshua Jones (Christmas, Fla.) is seventh in blocks per set (1.37), while John Lucas (Cincinnati, Ohio) is listed 19th in stuffs per frame with a mark of 1.07. Chris Flood (Louisville, Ky.) is also ranked 25th in aces per set with a mark of 0.35.
Lees-McRae returns to the court on Friday when the Bobcats host Limestone College to resume conference play at 7 p.m. in Williams Gymnasium.
