BANNER ELK, N.C. – John Sobel and Hector Serviat were recently named to a pair of Preseason National Award Watch Lists. Sobel was mentioned on the Karch Kiraly Award List, while Serviat was on the Ryan Millar Award List.
The watch lists for both awards were determined by Off the Block using a variety of factors including players performances from previous seasons and projections on standouts at their position to watch during the upcoming season. The Karch Kiraly Award is for outside hitters, and the Ryan Millar Award is for middle blockers.
Sobel, who was one of 33 student-athletes to be named to the Karch Kiraly Award Watch List, led the Bobcats with 281 kills last season averaging 3.43 per set. The senior outside hitter also paced the Bobcats with 26 service aces last season. Sobel's best performance of his collegiate career came last season when he set a career-high with 24 kills at Mount Olive.
After a standout first season as a Bobcat, Serviat was one of 27 players named to the Ryan Millar Award Watch List. Serviat was one of three Bobcats to have over 100 kills on the season finishing with 135. The Miami, Fla. native led the way for the Bobcat freshmen in kills (135), assists (8), service aces (13), digs (58) and blocks (34).
LMC will open its 2017 season Jan. 13 when it hosts Lincoln Memorial inside Williams Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
