BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team will open its 2017 season with a pair of matches at home this weekend. LMC will take on Lincoln Memorial at 7 p.m. Friday before hosting Charleston (W.V.) Saturday at noon inside Williams Gymnasium.
About the Bobcats: The Bobcats will look to improve on a 1-25 record overall from last season. LMC will look fairly different with seven newcomers on the squad. On the flip side the Bobcats will have six returners from last season's team. Leading this group are John Sobel and Hector Serviat. Both players were nominated for Preseason National Award Watch Lists. Sobel was named to the Karch Kiraly List, while Serviat was mentioned on the Ryan Millar List. Those two awards go to the top outside hitters and middle blockers, respectively.
About Lincoln Memorial: The Railsplitters are a brand new program this season and currently hold a record of 0-1 on the season. LMU fell to King (Tenn.) 3-0 in its inaugural match on Jan. 10. Evan Cory led LMU with eight kills, and Ryan Iskander dished out 23 assists.
About Charleston (W.V.): Charleston finished last season with a 4-24 record overall and a 0-14 mark in league play. Eugene Stuart, who is entering his sophomore season with the Golden Eagles, led the team with 166 kills and 39 blocks in 2016.
