FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Fort Wayne swept the Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team Saturday night in a non-conference matchup. The loss drops LMC's 2018 record to 0-2 on the season.
Set 1: The Bobcats played neck-and-neck with the Mastodons in the opening set of Saturday's match. Fort Wayne held the lead for most of the frame, but Lees-McRae was never more than a few points behind. LMC was able to knot the score at 23-23 in search of its first set win of the young 2018 season. The Mastodons had other ideas though as they notched back-to-back points to finish off the first stanza, 25-23.
Set 2: It looked like the Bobcats would even the match at 1-1 in the second as they led 12-10 midway through the frame. Fort Wayne would go on a 10-2 run to rally past Lees-McRae and eventually won the stanza by a 25-18 final tally.
Set 3: In what proved to be the final set of the match, the Mastodons scored 13 of the first 20 points to stake themselves to an early 13-7 lead on LMC. The six-point deficit proved too much to overcome for the Bobcats as they ended up falling to Fort Wayne by a 25-18 score.
Stat Standouts: For the second straight match, LMC's offense was paced by Robert Bowling who totaled nine kills. Bowling also finished tied for the team-lead with three total blocks with fellow freshman, Ethan Gardner. Chris Woolslayer also had a productive night with five kills on 10 attempts to go along with a team-high six digs.
Next Up: The Bobcats will look open their home schedule next Friday when they host Bluefield College at Williams Gymnasium. The start time for that game is set for 7 p.m.
