HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball wrapped up its trip to Hawaii with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-9) loss in an exhibition match against Academy United Saturday night. Academy United is a professional team that plays in the National Volleyball Association (NVA) based out of San Francisco, California.
Set 1 – LMC found itself down very early in the match. AU promptly started scoring four of the first five points. Lees-McRae was able to trim the deficit back down to a pair of points, but Academy United repeated itself at the end of the frame closing out the first frame on a 4-1 run to win the first, 25-19.
Set 2 – Lees-McRae played its best set of the night in the second stanza. LMC trailed Academy United by just three points midway through the frame, 16-13. Following that point, however, AU went on a 9-4 run to close out the set, 25-19.
Set 3 – In what proved to be the final set of the match, Academy United put together its best efforts of the contest. They hit .556 on 18 attempts with 11 kills. On the flip side, the Bobcats struggled with attack errors hitting a match-low -.043. Those two factors led to a 25-9 victory for Academy United.
Next Up – The Bobcats will return home to Williams Gymnasium next Thursday when they host Queens (N.C.) University. First serve for that match is set for 7 p.m.
