BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College men's volleyball team will return to action Saturday when it hosts Limestone at Williams Gymnasium. First serve between the Bobcats and Saints is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Last Time Out – Lees-McRae fell in a four-set match on February 8 to Queens University in Banner Elk. The loss moved LMC's record to 2-8 on the season.
Gardner gaining confidence at home – Freshman Ethan Gardner has enjoyed playing at Williams Gymnasium during his young career as a Bobcat. Gardner is hitting .442 on 43 attempts in matches played at home, while also leading the team in both blocks (13) and aces (6).
Setter settling in – LMC setter Joseph Valadez has seen a boost in his play as of late. In his last four matches, Valadez is averaging 8.94 assists per set compared to a 7.83 average in the season's first five tilts.
Confidence in Conference – With its next seven matches being against Conference Carolinas foes, the Bobcats need to find confidence within the league. LMC is 0-3 in league matches so far this spring, but all three matches have been away from Banner Elk.
About Limestone – The Saints enter Saturday's game against the Bobcats with a record of 3-10 overall and a 1-5 conference record. Like the Bobcats, the Saints are a young squad in 2018 with eight freshmen on their roster. Limestone's top players so far is Anthony Savage who is third in the league with 130 kills on the season.
Series History vs. Limestone – Limestone has won nine of the 16 all-time matchups against the Bobcats. Eight of those nine victories have come during the last four seasons as the Saints are 8-0 against LMC since the start of the 2014 season. Lees-McRae last defeated the Saints on February 1, 2013 in four sets.
